Vehicle vs Pedestrian Incident In Dedicated Bus Lane

NARRATIVE OF INCIDENT:
On 03/18/24 at 2301hrs, Springfield Police Department Officers were dispatched to a reported vehicle versus pedestrian traffic crash on Pioneer Parkway West, south of the Hayden Bridge roundabout. Responding officers found that the crash involved a Lane Transit District bus and occurred in the dedicated LTD bus lane in the middle of Pioneer Parkway East and West.

The preliminary investigation revealed the pedestrian was laying in the bus lane, covered by a blanket when he was struck by the bus. The pedestrian was transported by medics to a local hospital with life threatening injuries. The departments major accident investigation team (MAIT) is investigating the crash and Lane Transit District is fully cooperating with the investigation.
