Land Survey Information

The City of Springfield survey section provides a variety of services to benefit the community, including support of the City of Springfield infrastructure and support of development in the city. Survey staff establishes and maintains vertical and horizontal control networks to support planning, engineering, surveying, and GIS mapping needs. Survey provides boundary, topographic, and construction surveys for the City of Springfield capital development and maintenance projects, checks subdivision plats and partition plats, and maintains archives of City infrastructure related legal documents.

In addition, survey staff can provide basic land survey/property boundary assistance and advice to Springfield community members.

Elevation Benchmarks

PLEASE USE THIS ELEVATION DATA AT YOUR OWN RISK. This data is provided as a complimentary service and is intended to be used for surveying, engineering, and city-wide planning. The City of Springfield provides no guarantees or warranties that accompany this product. The City recommends that users of this data confirm the data through their own inspection. In no event shall the City of Springfield be liable to the customer or any third party for errors, omissions or positional accuracy of this product, regardless of the form of claim or action, whether in contract or tort, including negligence, in the amount that exceeds the sum paid by the customer for the product. The information contained was mapped by the City of Springfield through differential leveling methods. This elevation data was collected at various times in the past several decades, and was recently verified for accuracy in the Summer of 2010. To verify accuracy, the existing differential leveled data was shot with GPS and benchmarks found to be errant were re-leveled by differential methods. The elevations provided are accurate to a tolerance of approximately 0.15’ or better.

Benchmark Features:

  • Horizontal coordinates to the nearest foot. Datum: SPC OR South Zone, Int’l. Feet
  • Elevation datum is NAVD88.
  • Photographs of the benchmark Note, the photo file name specifies the direction the photo was taken. Example: “158_e.jpg” specifies the photo of Benchmark 158 was taken facing East.
  • Description of the exact location of the benchmark. Click to view a Legend of Description terms.
  • Benchmark numbering is the same as previously distributed City of Springfield Benchmark lists. For benchmarks that have been destroyed, the number has been removed. THIS ONLINE DATA SUPERCEDES ALL PREVIOUSLY DISTRIBUTED DATA. Please cease use of old benchmark data.
  • If you require Elevation Data in the datum NGVD29, conversion to that datum is the responsibility of the user. If you require conversion to the datum previously used by the City of Springfield, COS29, please contact the City of Springfield Survey staff.
