Springfield Public Library is hosting a free book club featuring Venezuelan author Miguel Antonio Guevara
Join the free Spanish language book club at the Springfield Public Library. Register at the library to get a copy of the book, Los peces de pecera y su memoria corta by Venezuelan author Miguel Antonio Guevara, while supplies last. The group will meet twice to talk about the book: from 1:30 – 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 8, and from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. on Monday, July 8. The July event will feature a presentation by the author himself. This presentation is part of the library’s Grupo de Lectura en español book group and series.
Known for his work as a poet, novelist and essayist, Guevara has received awards such as the Mariano Picón Salas International Essay Prize and the Alfredo Armas Alfonzo National Literature Prize. His work is characterized by subjective, introspective narrative exercises. Los peces de pecera y su memoria corta is a choral narrative that addresses the collapse of civilization and the nature of evil through the fantastic, the tragicomedy and the fragmentary. The novel centers on three characters: a prisoner of war trapped in a basement with his fellow prisoners, an apprentice writer who finds the world in an apocalyptic scenario after an unsuccessful spiritual retreat, and a woman obsessed with sending messages into space from her shortwave radio and who falls in love with the wrong person. Grupo de Lectura is brought to you by the Springfield Public Library thanks to a grant from the Spark Fund of the Oregon Community Foundation.

La Biblioteca Pública de Springfield organiza un grupo de lectura gratuito
Participe en el grupo de lectura gratuito en español de la Biblioteca Pública de Springfield. Inscríbase en la biblioteca para obtener un ejemplar del libro Los peces de pecera y su memoria corta del autor venezolano Miguel Antonio Guevara, hasta agotar existencias. El grupo se reunirá dos veces para charlar sobre el libro: de 1:30 a 3:00 p.m. el sábado, 8 de junio y de 5:30 a 7:00 p.m. el lunes 8 de julio. El evento de julio contará con una presentación del propio autor. Esta presentación forma parte del Grupo de Lectura en español de la biblioteca. Se puede participar en persona en la biblioteca o por Zoom.
Conocido por su trabajo como poeta, novelista y ensayista, Guevara ha recibido galardones como el Premio Internacional de Ensayo Mariano Picón Salas y el Premio Nacional de Literatura Alfredo Armas Alfonzo. Su obra se caracteriza por ejercicios narrativos subjetivos, introspectivos, de coleccionismo e Los peces de pecera y su memoria corta es una narración coral que aborda el colapso civilizatorio y la naturaleza del mal a través de lo fantástico, la tragicomedia y lo fragmentario. La obra se centra en tres personajes: un prisionero de guerra atrapado en un sótano con sus compañeros, un aprendiz de escritor que encuentra al mundo en un escenario apocalíptico después de un infructuoso retiro espiritual, y una mujer obsesionada con enviar mensajes al espacio desde su radio de onda corta que se enamora de la persona equivocada. El Grupo de Lectura llega de la mano de la Biblioteca Pública de Springfield gracias a una beca del Spark Fund de la Oregon Community Foundation.
