NARRATIVE OF INCIDENT:
On March 31st, 2024, at 6:43 PM Springfield Police Officers responded to a residence in the 1000 Block of South 70th Street in Springfield regarding the suspicious deaths of two individuals. Those individuals have been identified as 48-year-old Kristin Bennett and her 9-year-old daughter.
After collecting physical evidence, video surveillance, and speaking with several witnesses, Springfield Police Department Detectives in conjunction with the Lane County Medical Examiner’s office have determined both died due to gunshot wounds they suffered. Kristin Bennett died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound and her daughter was a victim of homicide.
Additionally, two other family members that reside in the home have been contacted and are actively assisting detectives with the investigation.
