NARRATIVE OF INCIDENT:

On September 28th, 2023 at 2:02 AM Officers with the Springfield Police Department responded to the 100 block of South 46th Street in Springfield. Officers located a man with suspicious injuries, lying on the sidewalk. He was transported to Riverbend Hospital where the man later succumbed to his injuries. Evidence located at the scene determined the death was a homicide, so Detectives were called in to investigate.

During the investigation, Detectives learned the incident stemmed from a relationship dispute. Evidence at the scene indicated a woman was missing and an unknown person had possibly kidnapped her and fled in a silver van. After contacting several acquaintances of the victim, the woman was identified and located safe and uninjured on September 29th, 2023. After hours of being with the suspect, she managed to escape and returned to Springfield. The suspect was identified as the woman’s ex-boyfriend, Isaac Henry McGrew, a 48-year-old resident of Marcola, Oregon.

Working with the Lane County Sheriff’s Office, Detectives searched every known location the suspect frequented. On September 30th, 2023, Detectives determined McGrew had fled the state to a family member’s residence in Chico, California. After Springfield Police Detectives identified a location of McGrew’s whereabouts, they contacted Butte County Sheriff’s office for assistance with apprehending McGrew. McGrew and the suspect vehicle were located late at night on September 30th, 2023. He was arrested without incident and is currently housed at the Butte County Jail pending extradition to Oregon.

Without the assistance of the Lane County Sheriff’s Office in Oregon and the Butte County Sheriff’s Office in California this dangerous offender would not have been apprehended in such a swift manner.

Anyone with information or video surveillance regarding this incident is asked to contact the Springfield Police Department at 541-726-3721.
