Presented by the Springfield Historic Commission and the Springfield History Museum, these awards recognize a broad array of stewardship activities that increase awareness, appreciation, and support an inclusive perspective of local heritage.
Award recipients are selected by the Mayor. The Mayor’s award will be informed by input from a jury that includes representatives of the Historic Commission and the History Museum Committee and members of the community selected by the Mayor. This is a recognition award promoting exceptional commitment and achievement; no monetary awards are associated with this program. Up to 3 awards per category may be presented each year, at the discretion of the Mayor with input from the jury.

Award Categories
Preservation Excellence Award – FOR PROJECTS – Recognition of outstanding projects, including but not limited to:
- Historic preservation/restoration – restoration, rehabilitation, or adaptive use of historic buildings, structures, sites, or cultural landscapes.
- Research/outreach activities – activities related to the identification, protection, and interpretation of heritage resources, such as research, preservation planning, surveys, education, and outreach projects.
History Maker Award – FOR PERSON/ENTITY – Recognition of individuals, organizations, companies, and public agencies that demonstrate leadership in shaping, preserving, and fostering appreciation of local heritage – past, present, and future.
- Legacy/Lifetime – significant contributions over time to the advancement of the preservation of heritage resources in Springfield, Oregon.
- Change Agent – recent/ongoing actions and innovation that are shaping the present-day community and will have a profound impact for years to come.
