Location: 23rd Street and Olympic Street

Case Number: 21-05867

Date/Time: 8/22/21 at about 2:53 pm

On 8-22-21, at approximately 2:53 pm, SPD received multiple calls about a fire in the area of 23rd Street and Olympic Street. An SPD officer immediately responded to the area.

When the officer arrived, they saw a burned area just east of 23rd Street along the north side of the waterway. This location is immediately south of 2303 Olympic Street and is posted City of Springfield property.

Eugene Springfield Fire personnel had already extinguished the flames prior to the officer’s arrival. The fire had been started in an overturned shopping cart near what appeared to be a transient camp. The surrounding area is covered in dead grass.

The officer was unable to locate any suspects, and witnesses were unable to provide suspect information.

We want to thank our partners at Eugene Springfield Fire for responding quickly and preventing the fire from spreading.
