NARRATIVE OF INCIDENT:
On February 25, 2024, the Springfield Police department began receiving 911 emergency calls from a male suspect living on the 300 Block of E Street in Springfield. The suspect failed to articulate an emergency during each call and was advised by 911 dispatchers regarding the misuse of the 911 emergency system. The suspect continued making calls to 911, prompting a police response to the caller’s residence.

The suspect refused to answer the door and was again advised by officers to cease the unwarranted 911 calls. The suspect continued calling and would not answer his door for responding officers. In a 36-hour period the suspect made more than 25 calls to 911, tying-up valuable emergency response resources in the process.

On February 26, 2024, officers applied for and were granted a search warrant to enter the suspects’ residence and place him under arrest for the continued improper use of the emergency communication system. Multiple SPD assets were used to safely enter and search the apartment for the suspect, who was located by a police K9.

The suspect was taken into custody without incident and lodged at the Springfield Municipal Jail for Improper Use of Emergency Communication System.
