NARRATIVE OF INCIDENT:
On October 5, 2023 at approximately 1510 hours a loss prevention officer from the Springfield Target (2750 Gateway St) contacted the Springfield Police Department to report a shoplift in progress. The individual had fled the store with an estimated $500.00 worth of merchandise. Prior to the arrival of SPD Officers, the loss prevention officer lost sight of the suspect.

Upon arrival, an Officer located an individual matching the description of the suspect on Dornoch St. The suspect fled on foot and appeared to be carrying the described stolen merchandise. The suspect continued to flee and jumped several fences while headed in the direction of I-5.

Several SPD units responded, including a K9 & handler and two drone pilots, and set a perimeter around the last known location of the suspect who had fled into heavy vegetation on the east side of I-5. A drone pilot using a thermal camera identified an area of interest where the K9 had tracked and relayed that information to the handler. K9 Nord was then able to locate the suspect hiding nearby. The suspect was taken into custody without incident and was charged with multiple crimes related to the theft and was also found to have outstanding felony warrants for his arrest.
