Local Author Danuta Pfeiffer at the Springfield Public Library

Local romance and historical fiction author, Danuta Pfeiffer, shares ‘Libertas’ an award-winning love story rising from the despair of slavery and the quest for freedom along the Oregon Trail.  At 3 p.m., Saturday, February 5, attend an ONLINE book discussion via ZOOM (link below) as part of Springfield Celebrates Authors 2022.  Described as ‘Roots’ meets ‘Lonesome Dove,’ ‘Libertas’ is the first in the Pocket Full of Seeds Trilogy and follows a couple’s desperate fight for freedom in nineteenth century America.  The novel won the Highly Recommended Award, the Gold Medal, and Runner Up for the Historical Fiction Book of the Year 2021 awarded by the Historical Fiction Company.  Ms. Pfeiffer has also authored four nonfiction books including the international award winning ‘Chiseled: A memoir of Identity, Duplicity and Divine Wine’ which outlined her time as the co-host of The 700 Club with Pat Robertson during his presidential run. She has been a featured author on C-Span TV and is a two-time TEDx speaker.

Springfield Celebrates Authors is an annual series presented by the Springfield Public Library highlighting local, national and international authors. Springfield Celebrates Authors continues with Oregon Book Award winner Kesha Ajose Fisher and her book ‘No God Like the Mother’ at 3 p.m., Saturday, March 12, 2022.

Love is in the Air at SPRINGfilm

Invite your beloved (or beloved-to-be) to enjoy the classic Australian romantic comedy ‘Strictly Ballroom’ the week before Valentine’s Day at SPRINGfilm. At 6:30 p.m., Thursday, February 10 come to the Wildish Theater in downtown Springfield and watch Baz Luhrmann’s (Romeo + Juliet, Moulin Rouge) multi-award-winning directorial debut. The film follows rogue ballroom dancer Scott (Paul Mercurio) who breaks ALL the rules of ballroom dancing with beginner dancer Fran in their quest to win the Pan-Pacific Grand Prix Dancing Championship. Will their unconventional dance style succeed? Will love find a way? Will ballroom dancing ever be the same again? Slip on your facemask and come and find out!

SPRINGfilm continues at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, March 24, 2022, with a free Spring Break week showing of the original “Jumanji” starring Robin Williams. Masks will be required to attend this showing.
