ILLUMINATION has received an overwhelmingly positive response from the community, including an opening outdoor event in December that drew more than 300 attendees. The Springfield History Museum has chosen to extend the exhibit through March 12, 2022, with a final outdoor projection event featuring photography and oral history excerpts during the 2nd Friday Art Walk on March 11.
ILLUMINATION features the collective work of photographer Ofelia Guzman and community organizer Johanis Tadeo together with stories from the existing Museum collection.
“Bringing together historic and contemporary immigration stories of local residents has resonated with people,” said Community Engagement and Outreach Specialist Mindy Linder. “It reminds us that we all have a story, either our own or our ancestors, of the journey that brought us to this special place we call Springfield today.”
Due to consistently high COVID case numbers locally, the Springfield History Museum has opted to cancel the outdoor projection event scheduled to coincide with the 2nd Friday Art Walk in February 2022.
The exhibit is installed in the east-facing windows of the Museum gallery, where viewers have unlimited access. Also on view is the new temporary exhibit, Glenwood Untold, that will be on display through June 24, 2022.
Current Museum hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturdays. As always, admission is free!
