Springfield, OR – The Springfield Public Library has selected eighteen young artists as the winners of the 2024-2025 Children’s Bookmark Contest.  The winners were congratulated by Mayor VanGordon at the regular City Council Meeting on Monday, February 3.

The Springfield Public Library has held its annual Bookmark Contest for 44 years. This year over 1400 Springfield students entered the contest, from numerous school as well as homeschool youth, Kindergarten through 12th grade. They were invited to create their artwork around the themes of books, reading, libraries, or the 2025 Summer Reading theme, “Level Up at Your Library”.

Oversize versions of the winning designs are on display at the library until next year’s contest, and winners received a stack of bookmarks as well as an oversize copy. Schools with winning students will receive an oversize bookmark to display as well. The winning bookmarks have been professionally printed and are available for visitors to take home in the library.

All of the 1400 plus submissions will be on display in the Youth Gallery in City Hall during the month of March along with an interactive “I Spy” game, courtesy of the Springfield Arts Commission who also support the contest.

“This yearly contest at the library is a wonderful way to celebrate our community and its youth,” said Abigail Craig, Youth Services Librarian. “We sometimes hear stories from previous winners, including adults and even city employees who remember fondly their participation in the contest. There were so many amazing entries this year, it was hard to narrow it down. We are so glad we can hang all of the entries in the show in the Youth Gallery in March, so all of the artists and their work can be celebrated. We especially want to thank parents, teachers, and school librarians for helping all of these young artists to create their entries.”

For those who missed the opportunity to participate, the contest will open this fall right after Thanksgiving.
