NARRATIVE OF INCIDENT:
On 01/26/2026 at about 3:25 pm the Springfield Police Department responded to a reported single vehicle crash near the intersection of Gateway Street and International Way. Multiple callers reported a vehicle crashed into a tree and had come to rest on its side with several occupants trapped inside.
Officers, first on scene, found several people assisting the entrapped occupants. A juvenile occupant who had been removed from the vehicle sustained a major laceration on her arm, on which an officer applied a torniquet to control the bleeding. The adult male driver and another juvenile were extricated from the vehicle by fire personnel. All three were transported by ambulance to an area hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
The preliminary investigation indicates the vehicle left the road for an unknown reason and struck the tree. The Springfield Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is investigating the crash.
