Short, Grace Anne | 37-Year-Old Female | Eugene, OR
NARRATIVE OF INCIDENT:
On January 24, 2025, at 1227Hrs, Officers with the Springfield Police Department responded to Winco on Olympic Street regarding a reported theft. Loss prevention personnel were able to observe the suspect, Norman Olson, shoplift before entering a white Ford F150 in the parking lot.
Prior to arrival, SPD dispatch was able to confirm Olson’s identity and observed that he currently had 4 felony warrants: Elude, Theft I, Possession of Heroin, and Felon in Possession of a Firearm.
Recognizing the potential risk and Olson’s history of carrying a firearm and attempting to evade police, SPD officers used patrol vehicles to block the F150 into a parking spot. Officers notified Olson of his outstanding warrants and his probable cause for Theft III from Winco that day. Olson refused to comply while his passenger, Grace Short, began rummaging around the vehicle. Short was also found to have an outstanding warrant and was advised to keep her hands visible.
While officers attempted multiple de-escalation techniques, neither suspect complied with officers’ orders to exit the vehicle. The window was broken in an attempt to better communicate with the suspects and provide officers with a means to safely remove them from the vehicle; Olson then exited the passenger side of the vehicle and both suspects were arrested without further incident.
In addition to their aforementioned warrants, Olson and Short were lodged on the charges below.
CHARGES:
Olson: Theft III | Obstruction of Governmental Justice
Short: Possession of a Controlled Substance (Fentanyl)
