Survey Open for Springfield’s Housing + Design Initiative

Springfield, OR – The City of Springfield has launched a brief survey as part of its Housing + Design Initiative to gather input on potential options for making mixed-use housing easier to build. Options include exploring the definition of mixed-use development with greater flexibility and considering which (or any) mixed-use and commercial districts the City could open up to allow more housing.

Input gathered through the survey will inform discussions this fall with the Planning Commission and City Council. It will help shape how much or little to update the Development Code and plan policies in accordance with preferred approaches later this year. As a thank you, the City is offering a chance to win one of two $25 Visa gift cards. The survey will be open Tuesday, August 26, through September 30, 2025.

About the Project:

Springfield is updating its Development Code and guiding neighborhood refinement plans to make it easier to build more housing. This effort aligns with Springfield’s Housing Strategy and ensures compliance with new State housing mandates. One way the City is working to help address Springfield’s housing shortage is to remove regulatory barriers to developing housing through its Housing + Design Initiative. This project explores how to make development requirements clearer in mixed-use districts and considers several concepts to open up housing opportunities in some of Springfield’s commercial areas.
