Springfield’s Leaf Pickup Program Starts Soon

Springfield’s Leaf Pickup Program is starting soon! This free service is offered to help residents within city limits remove leaves from yards, streets, sidewalks, and storm drains. Picking up leaves helps prevent flooding, protects water quality, and keeps neighborhood streets and sidewalks safe for people walking, biking, and driving.

Residents can participate in the Leaf Pickup Program by collecting their leaves in medium-sized garbage bags and placing them on the curb for pickup by 7 a.m. of their scheduled week. Bagged leaves are picked up two times each season with pickup starting the Monday after Thanksgiving for those living west of 28th/31st Street and the following Monday for those living east of 28th/31st Street, the second round of pickup starts the Monday after New Years Day, see the chart below for pickup dates.

Area of City: First Round begins: Second Round begins:
West of 28th St/31st St Week of December 2, 2024 Week of January 6, 2025
East of 28th St/ 31st St Week of December 9, 2024 Week of January 13, 2025

Sanipac is contracted to pick up, haul, and recycle bagged leaves for residents within the city limits. Only medium-sized bags containing leaves will be picked up; bags with other yard debris cannot be used as compost and are not accepted. Collection may take several days and could be delayed by severe weather. Blowing or raking leaves into streets is prohibited for everyone, including residents, landscaping companies, and property managers.

Springfield residents can pledge to properly dispose of their leaves for a chance to win a $100 gift card from a local home improvement store. Residents can view this year’s informational flier and find details on how to enter at http://bit.ly/SpfldORLeafPickup.
