Springfield, OR – Today, the City of Springfield marked a historic moment as Jami Resch was sworn in as Interim Chief of Police at a ceremony held at the Springfield Justice Center. The Honorable Judge James Tierney administered the oath of office as Chief Resch officially stepped into her new leadership role.
Mayor Sean VanGordon opened the ceremony, recognizing the dedication of Springfield’s public safety professionals and thanking outgoing Chief Andrew Shearer for his service.
“Chief Resch is a proven leader who understands that public safety is more than enforcement – it’s a calling. It’s built on trust, accountability, and service. She brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to strengthening relationships, both within SPD and throughout our community. On behalf of the City of Springfield, we welcome Chief Resch to this role and thank her and the entire police force for their dedication and service,” said Mayor VanGordon.
Chief Resch was joined by her family, including her husband, who had the honor of pinning her Chief’s badge. With 26 years of law enforcement experience – including serving as Portland’s Chief of Police—Chief Resch brings a wealth of expertise in leadership, community engagement, and department operations. Since joining Springfield Police Department in 2023, she has made significant strides in strengthening community relationships, mentoring officers, and enhancing department operations.
