Six-week Saturday series for families with children ages 0 to 5 begins Sept. 19
Springfield, OR – Springfield Public Library is partnering with Parenting Now to offer a free six-week series designed to help families build early literacy skills through play, reading and everyday activities.
Parenting Connection: Building Stronger Families Through Play and Literacy begins Saturday, Sept. 19, and continues through Oct. 24 at Springfield Public Library. Classes will be held from 10:30 a.m. to noon.
The series is designed for families with children ages 0 to 5. Families may register for one or more of the six interactive classes, with each session featuring a different theme. Free child care will be available, and each participating family will receive a children’s book connected to that week’s theme to take home.
“Families build early literacy skills through simple things they do together every day, including talking, singing, reading, writing and playing,” said Abigail Craig, Springfield Public Library Youth Services Librarian. “This partnership with Parenting Now gives families another way to learn together, connect with other parents and bring those activities home.”
The classes expand the library’s early literacy programming, which also includes three weekly storytimes returning for the fall beginning Sept. 8. The class series is supported by the library’s Ready to Read Grant from the State Library.

Registration is required, and space is limited. Families can view class themes and register for one or more sessions through Parenting Now at parentingnow.corsizio.com.
