A Springfield Celebrates Authors presentation at Springfield Public Library

With four books published on the history of the southern Willamette Valley, author, David Turner, will present an illustrated lecture on books that document local history. Join the Springfield Public Library at 1 pm on Saturday, May 13 for an insightful book talk about our past in photos.

Turner, a former museum director and university faculty member, has always been involved in researching how photographs document history. That has been the core concentration of the four books on local history he has published in the last ten years. These books feature histories told by historic and contemporary photographs, maps, oral histories, and research in local archives. Their topics include the city of Eugene, the area surrounding the Long Tom River and its tributaries, a rural neighborhood west of Junction City, founded by early settlers, and the historic site of Fish Lake, near the headwaters of the McKenzie River. This lecture will focus on the different formats that books on local history can take, using as examples Turner’s books, especially his most recent book, Fish Lake in the High Cascades, A Historic Legacy, 2022.

Springfield Celebrates Authors is an annual series presented by the Springfield Public Library highlighting local, national, and international authors. Past events can be found on the Springfield Celebrates Authors Playlist on the library’s YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/wheremindsgrow.
