NARRATIVE:

Over the course of four days in August, Officers with the Springfield Police Department were able to provide active shooter response training (A.L.I.C.E. Training: https://www.alicetraining.com/) to over 1500 employees from Springfield Public Schools and Willamalane Parks & Recreation District. SRO Newton, with support from SRO Amundson, organized and lead the trainings that provided scenario-based education to participants.

Training for Springfield Public Schools took place across three days and provided A.L.I.C.E. training for nearly every single SPS employee. These trainings were comprised of large group presentations, instructor-lead small group education, & several simulated event scenarios. Law Enforcement Officers from the Eugene Police Department and the Lane County Sheriff’s Office supported the large-scale trainings that processed roughly 500 staff a day. Additional SPD staff worked in support and coordination of both trainings.

“The safety of the Springfield community relies on strong partnerships like those that exist today with SPS & Willamalane.” said SPD Chief of Police Andrew Shearer.  “We are proud of the leadership of School Resource Officers Newton and Amundson in their delivery of training that prepares Willamalane and School staff for these situations.”
