This Saturday, June 26, 2021, the U.S. Olympic Race Walk Trials will take place in Springfield. With the racecourse traveling through Downtown Springfield, traffic control changes and a detour will be in effect. The designated racecourse will use Main Street between Pioneer Parkway East and 5th Street, and 5th Street between Main Street and C Street. These streets and surrounding streets will be closed with no street parking prior to and for the duration of the event, closures begin at 3 a.m. and end at 1 p.m.

Barricades will mark street closures at various points around the racecourse. NO PARKING signs will be posted in areas where parking is not permitted. Vehicles in NO PARKING areas may be towed. Residents and businesses in the area will receive notice prior to the closures. Where parking is permitted, the City of Springfield is suspending parking enforcement in Downtown Springfield to better accommodate event goers.

Streets to be closed are:

  • Main Street will be closed between Pioneer Parkway West and 6th
  • A Street, B Street and C Street will be closed between 4th Street and 6th
  • 5th Street will be closed between D Street and South A Street.
  • Pioneer Parkway East and 4th Street will be closed between A Street and South A Street.

 

Truck traffic traveling westbound on Main Street will be routed onto 42nd Street while non-truck traffic will be routed around the Race Walk activities on 14th Street. Traffic will be routed onto 14th Street, to E Street, to Pioneer Parkway West, to return to Main Street heading west. Street closures will also be in effect for left turns from South A Street with turns not permitted onto Pioneer Parkway East, and 4th – 9th Streets. Drivers traveling east bound on South A Street may use the designated detour via 14th Street for local access to these streets.
