NARRATIVE OF INCIDENT:
In late November, officers from the Springfield Police Department Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) began an investigation into organized retail theft in which the suspect, Ramirez, was believed to have stolen thousands of dollars’ worth of merchandise from multiple retailers in Lane County.
On December 16th, CRU officers served a search a warrant at a storage unit in Salem where the stolen property was believed to be housed. The search warrant yielded over $15,000 of stolen merchandise from various retailers including: Home Depot, Target, T.J Maxx, Ross, Nike, Lucky Brand Outlet, and Fred Meyer.
While returning the stolen property, it was discovered that the suspect Ramirez, had 27 documented incidents of theft or attempted theft from Home Depot stores alone. Those incidents resulted in tens of thousands of dollars in stolen merchandise from locations in Eugene, Albany, Sherwood, Beaverton, Oregon City, and Corvallis.
The Lane County District Attorney’s Office has issued a warrant for Ramirez’s arrest. Ramirez is currently incarcerated at the Washington County Jail, awaiting his transfer to Lane County.
