NARRATIVE OF INCIDENT:
On 12/05/22 at 1227hrs Officers with the Springfield Police Department responded to a report of a robbery in the 800 block of West Centennial. A male suspect had approached a coffee shop employee, reported that he had a firearm, and demanded her vehicle keys or he would shoot her. The victim surrendered her keys and the suspect departed in the victim’s vehicle.

On 120722 at 0102 hours an alert SPD Officer observed the victim’s stolen vehicle parked near the intersection of South 41st Street and Camellia Street. A male matching the suspect description and an unrelated female were standing at the vehicle when the officer attempted to contact them. The male fled on foot to the south-east through several residential yards.

Assisting officers arrived in the area and K9 Kirby went to work trying to locate the robbery suspect. K9 Kirby tracked through several residential yards and located the suspect who had concealed himself underneath a covered barbeque on a Springfield resident’s back porch. The suspect was not compliant, and K9 Kirby quickly apprehended the suspect. It was soon confirmed he was not only in possession of the stolen vehicle, but that the suspect was in fact the individual who had stolen the vehicle two days prior.

The male was treated at a local hospital for minor injuries and was lodged at the Lane County Jail. The vehicle was towed from the scene to be returned to its rightful owner.
