Creating a Sustainable Future for Springfield

Welcome to the official page for the Mayor’s Fiscal Stability Task Force. This citizen-led effort was created to develop practical, community-centered recommendations to address Springfield’s long-term financial challenges. Convened in January 2025, the Task Force brought together varied voices from across the city to chart a path toward fiscal resilience and service sustainability.

About the Task Force

Springfield faces a growing structural budget gap that threatens the city’s ability to maintain essential services. In response, Mayor Sean VanGordon appointed the Fiscal Stability Task Force – an independent body of community leaders, business professionals, and subject-matter experts – to analyze the city’s fiscal health and recommend solutions.

Over the course of nine meetings, the Task Force explored a wide range of cost-saving strategies and revenue options. Their goal: to deliver a balanced and actionable roadmap for long-term financial stability.
