City’s Annual Summer Reading Program Launches June 9 with Events for All Ages
Springfield, OR – This summer, Springfield Public Library and History Museum invites the community to Level Up at Your Library, a celebration of reading, creativity, and connection for all ages. The 2025 Summer Reading Program kicks off Monday, June 9, and runs through Saturday, August 23, with free programming, performances, and prizes – no library card required.
From multicultural concerts and family storytimes to teen takeovers and button-making art nights, the Library and Museum are offering more than just books this summer, they’re offering a full season of community engagement.
All Ages Can Participate — and Win!
- Young children, kids, and tweens get a free book upon signup.
- Teens (ages 12+) earn incentives throughout the summer.
- Adults receive a free book after completing one title.
- All readers earn points and prize entries by completing reading and activity challenges.
Weekly Multicultural Plaza Series Starts June 18
As part of the Summer Reading Celebration, the Library will host nine weeks of live outdoor performances on the Fountain Plaza, featuring world-class musicians, dancers, and cultural leaders. Events take place Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m., beginning June 18.

- Mariachi Cuervo & Charro Artist Antonio Huerta
- Bollywood Dance with DJ Prashant
- Ratie D – Unity in Community concert
- Indigenous Cultural Celebration
- Mini Orchestra with Eugene Symphony musicians
Spotlight Events for All Ages
- Second Friday Art Walk kickoff for adults – June 13, 5–7 p.m., at City Hall
- After-Hours Teen Kickoff Party – June 27, 7–9 p.m., City Hall lobby (For ages 12-19)
- Teen Tuesdays – Weekly at 4:30 p.m., for youth ages 12+
- Family Storytime: Music & Movement – Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m., starting June 24
- Chess with Eugene Chess Club – Wednesdays 4:30–6:30 p.m., starting June 18
- Coventry & Kaluza Circus Show – July 30, 5:30 p.m.
- Museum of Natural and Cultural History: Power Play – August 20, 10:30 a.m.
- SpringFilm at Wildish Theater – Victor/Victoria (June 18), Murder on the Orient Express (July 16), Edge of Tomorrow (August 20), all at 6:30 p.m.
Inclusive Programming & Bilingual Author Events
- Grupo de Lectura bilingual book group (June & July) – includes free books (while supplies last)
- Author Mago Gilson presents in Spanish:
- Adult event: June 21, 1:00 p.m.
- Teen event: July 8, 4:30 p.m.
- All ages: July 8, 5:30 p.m.
Free Lunch for Youth All Summer
Food for Lane County will provide free weekday lunches for youth ages 0–18 at the Library Plaza from June 23 – August 22, 11:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m.
Media Opportunities
Local media are invited to attend and cover the kickoff events and multicultural performances throughout the summer. These vibrant, family-friendly programs are great opportunities to highlight cultural enrichment, youth literacy, and community connection in Springfield.
