Since 2012, this contest has been a fun and paws-itive tradition to celebrate local pets while promoting clean water initiatives. Pet waste left on the ground can wash into storm drains and enter the Willamette and McKenzie rivers, contributing to water pollution. The free Canines for Clean Water calendar is a reminder of the simple actions we can take to keep our rivers clean.

Springfield loves its dogs, and we love celebrating them while sharing an important message about protecting our local waterways,” said Peter Jaeger, Environmental Services Technician for the City of Springfield. “Picking up pet waste is one of the easiest ways to keep bacteria out of our rivers.”
