The Springfield Arts Commission (SAC) is now accepting applications for its Heritage Arts Grant (HAG). Lane County organizations, groups, artists and individuals are encouraged to submit applications for arts- and culture-related projects resulting in a public event, performance or show in Springfield, Ore. The deadline for submission is 5 p.m., April 1, 2022.
“In our community, as in all communities, the pandemic has created challenges for everyone – financial, social, political and personal. However, art is such a wonderful way to connect with one another and maintain a sense of shared experience even as we have been physically disconnected,” said Antonio Huerta, Springfield Arts Commissioner and chair of the HAG committee. “The Springfield Arts Commission is excited to offer the Heritage Arts Grant at a time when artistic expression, cultural celebration and community dialogue are so important.”
The SAC will award $4,500 this application cycle for projects to be held between July 2022 and June 2023. The commission seeks applications from emerging individual artists and groups, as we as well-established organizations, Huerta added.
“The Heritage Arts Grant is intended to support varied artistic and cultural expression,” Huerta said. “We are especially focused on funding unique, creative and engaging projects that acknowledge and celebrate the artistic, cultural and linguistic diversity of our community. We strongly encourage both groups and individuals at all levels of experience to apply, and to think broadly about how their experience and unique perspective add to the cultural richness of our community.”
The grant application and guidelines may be found on the Springfield Arts Commission’s website at https://springfield-or.gov/springfield-arts-commission/ Interested applicants are invited to attend a virtual grant information session on February 22, 2022 at 6:30 p.m. during which commissioners will provide an overview of the application and answer questions about the purpose of the grants, eligibility and the application process prior to the application deadline of April 1.
The Heritage Arts Grant program was developed to encourage community-based public arts programs to enrich and promote the cultural heritage of the City of Springfield. The grants are funded by City of Springfield room taxes and administered by the Springfield Arts Commission.
Grant awards will range from $250 to $1,500 per project. Last cycle’s HAG recipients included Eugene Springfield Youth Orchestra; Roving Park Players Theater Company; Springfield Alliance for Equity and Respect; and Willamette Riverkeepers. The commission also awarded funding to the Asian American Council of Oregon in support of the Asian Celebration, the NAACP in support of the ACT-SO program, Centro Latino Americano in support of Jessica Zapata Founder of Eugene Arte Latino, the Springfield Education Foundation to support the Chifin Native Youth Center and the Springfield Public Library Foundation in support of the Museum Springfield Atlas Project.
