NARRATIVE OF INCIDENT:
On December 16th, 2024, at 1901hrs, a Springfield Police Department Officer responded to the area of 18th & M St regarding a dispute between a couple living in an RV. Upon arrival, the victim was contacted and shared that the argument had not been physical but that his partner, Amanda Bendshadler, was upset and had left before police arrived. The victim was encouraged to contact SPD if Bendshadler returned and began to escalate.

A few hours later, officers returned to the area as the victim had called 911 stating that Bendshadler was wielding a knife and had made attempts to harm him. In addition to several bite wounds, the victim had multiple cuts and scratches across his face and torso as well as multiple slices through his clothing; all of which were not present when he had been contacted earlier. The victim, fearing for his life, was able to wrestle the knife away from Bendshadler and exit the RV before calling 911.

Officers were able to observe Bendshadler inside of the RV and made several attempts to contact her with instructions to come out. Bendshadler refused to exit, even as officers employed multiple de-escalation techniques. Eventually, officers utilized pepperball, a chemical agent similar to pepper spray, in an attempt to force Bendshadler from the RV, but she remained inside. Ultimately, officers safely entered the RV removed Bendshadler, who continued to resist efforts by officers to take be taken into custody.
