Following the release from the Lane County District Attorney’s Office regarding the July 30
th
event in which two Springfield Police Officers were stabbed and an officer-involved shooting
occurred, the Springfield Police Department provides the following update:
We thank District Attorney Parosa and his staff for their thorough review and comprehensive
release, which determined that the officer’s actions were lawful. We also extend our appreciation
to the many partner agencies who responded that day and supported the subsequent IDFIT
investigation.
Our condolences remain with the family and friends of Daniel Kahn. The loss of a loved one,
regardless of the circumstances, is always a tragedy. His struggles with mental health and
substance use underscore the complex challenges faced by many individuals and families.
The officers injured in the attack have since returned to full duty.
The District Attorney’s findings are the first step in the review process. Springfield Police will
now conduct an administrative investigation and convene a Force Review Committee to review
the event.
