Oregon Book Award non-fiction award nominees at Springfield Public Library
Two of this year’s Oregon Book Award nominees will share their journeys – both literal and literary – at the final Springfield Celebrates Authors event for 2022 at 1 p.m., Saturday, April 16. Allison Cobb shares her book “Plastic: An Autobiography”, tracing the violence of our consume-and-dispose culture, exposing the interconnections among plastic waste, climate change, nuclear technologies, and racism. Aaron Gilbreath’s book “The Heart of California: Exploring the San Joaquin Valley” follows his retracing of a 1938 boat trip from Bakersfield to San Francisco, but instead by car, in the midst of drought in 2014. Both books are finalists for the Oregon Book Award Sarah Winnemucca Award for Creative Nonfiction.
