Springfield Chief ShearerWelcome from the Chief of Police

On behalf of all the members of the Springfield Police Department, welcome to Springfield and thank you for visiting our webpage.

The Springfield Police Department is committed to providing excellent service to its more than 63,000 community members and to building relationships that allow us to collaboratively address public safety issues.  The people of Springfield are our most important partnership.  A proactive community working with a police department they trust is a key component to ensuring a safe place for us all to work, live, and raise our families.

The Springfield Police Department is a full-service police agency made up of 123 members that  include sworn police officers, unarmed community service officers, corrections officers, and dispatchers.  At the department’s core are the dedicated professional staff members who support SPD’s critical operations.

We are committed to continual improvement and building community trust. We accomplish this by engaging in open communication and listening; by providing advanced training and education to our members, through consistent internal accountability, utilization of advanced technologies, and implementation of public safety best practices.

Every person deserves to be treated with dignity and respect. We are committed to policing this city in a manner that is fair to everyone as well as empathetic toward the people we interact with daily.

I am proud of the members of the Springfield Police Department and honored to serve them as Chief. They have accomplished significant achievements in the past and remain fully committed to the safety and security of every person in this city as we grow into the future.

It is a privilege for us to hold the responsibility of serving the people of Springfield. We look forward to what we can all accomplish together.

Thank you,

Andrew Shearer
