Bidding for this project closed on July 20, 2022. The contract was awarded to Brown Contracting, Inc. in the amount of $215,395.67.
Construction began on November 14th. Work is scheduled to take place overnight between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. Access to businesses within the area will remain open during the project. As work progresses, lane closures will be necessary. Please follow all traffic controls in the area and please drive cautiously to keep everyone safe.
The intersection of Gateway Street and Kruse Way has had a significant number of crashes in recent years. The inside northbound lane on Gateway Street backs up on a regular basis while leaving an opening at the intersection of Gateway and Kruse to allow the intersection traffic to continue to make movements. This results in Gateway southbound traffic attempting to make a left turn and getting hit by the outside northbound lane traffic. There have also been crashes resulting from westbound traffic making left turns from Kruse Way onto Gateway.
Closing the southbound left turn lane and installing a median across the intersection to restrict the turning movements at Gateway Street and Kruse Way would eliminate these crashes and provide a safer intersection with still allowing a northbound right-in and westbound right-out movement.
This project involves installing raised median islands, traffic separators along Gateway Street, and a Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon (RRFB) crossing south of the Gateway Street/Kruse Way intersection.
