Code Enforcement Violations

To help maintain the public health, safety, and livability of our community, the City Council has adopted laws and regulations over the years that promote a healthy, safe and pleasant environment. The City’s code enforcement staff investigates potential code violations and enforces the Springfield Municipal Code and Development Code. Their goal is to work with residents and property owners to resolve compliance situations before they reach the need for enforcement action.

If you received a citation to appear in court for a violation of the Springfield Municipal Code or Development Code, you have the following options:

  • Option 1: Most individuals opt to plead Not Guilty to the code violation(s) and have their case set for a hearing. You can then contact the Code Enforcement Division to discuss your options for remediation and possible resolution of your case.

*Code enforcement staff spends a large amount of time in the field, so the best time of day to reach staff is early in the morning or late in the afternoon. Voicemail is available at any time by calling 541.726.3680 or emailing CodeEnforcement@springfield-or.gov.

  • Option 2: Enter a plea of No Contest and pay the fine listed on your citation.

*Please be aware that the fine is not cumulative and will apply separately to each code violation listed on your citation.

  • Option 3: Appear in court at or prior to the date and time listed on your citation to further discuss your options.

*The Code Enforcement officer will not be present at this initial appearance and must be contacted separately.
