City of Springfield Seeks Applicants for Boards, Committees, and Commissions

Springfield, OR – The City of Springfield is calling on dedicated community members to contribute their talents and perspectives by serving on one of the city’s various boards, committees, and commissions. This is an opportunity for residents to play an active role in shaping the future of their community. Applications are available online at Springfield Get Involved.

The application deadline for all positions is 5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 4, 2024. Available Positions:

Budget Committee

  • Positions: 1 open position representing Ward 6.
  • Term: Three years, expiring on December 31, 2027.
  • Duties: Review the City’s financial plans and annual budget.
  • Eligibility: Applicants must reside in Ward 6. Ward Map.

Historic Commission

  • Positions: 3 open positions.
  • Term: Up to two four-year terms.
  • Duties: Preserve Springfield’s cultural heritage and review development requests in historic areas.
  • Eligibility: Professional qualifications in related fields or residents/electors within the Metropolitan Area General Plan boundaries.

Planning Commission

  • Positions: Multiple positions available.
  • Term: Four years.
  • Duties: Make decisions on land use matters and advise the City Council on legislative planning issues.
  • Eligibility: Springfield residents interested in land use and community planning.

Springfield Arts Commission

  • Positions: 3 open positions.
  • Term: Four years, expiring December 2028.
  • Duties: Promote art in the community through various programs and events.
  • Eligibility: Must reside, own property, or own a business in Springfield. One non-resident seat available.

Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC)

  • Positions: 1 open voting member position.
  • Term: Three years, beginning January 2025.
  • Duties: Advise on bicycle and pedestrian policies, programs, and facilities.
  • Eligibility: Springfield residents with an interest in promoting active transportation.

Springfield History Museum Committee

  • Positions: 3 open positions.
  • Term: Four years, expiring December 31, 2028.
  • Duties: Make recommendations for museum exhibits and programs and assist with community outreach.
  • Eligibility: Preference for Springfield residents or business owners.

Applicants will be interviewed by the Springfield City Council during scheduled work sessions in October and November 2024. Dates and times will be announced.
