City of Springfield Receives GFOA’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Award

The City of Springfield is proud to announce that it has been recognized with the prestigious Distinguished Budget Presentation Award by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA). This significant achievement underscores the City’s commitment to excellence in governmental budgeting and transparency.

The award reflects Springfield’s dedication to meeting the highest principles of effective budget presentation, as set forth by GFOA’s national guidelines.

These guidelines evaluate how well the City’s budget serves as:

  • A policy document
  • A financial plan
  • An operations guide
  • A communications tool

To qualify for the award, Springfield’s budget was rigorously assessed and rated as “proficient” in all four categories, meeting 14 mandatory criteria. The recognition places Springfield among over 1,700 participants in the GFOA’s Budget Awards Program, and the City stands as an exemplary model for other government entities across North America.

City Manager Nancy Newton expressed her appreciation for the City’s Finance team, saying, “This award is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and collaboration of our entire team. We are proud to uphold Springfield’s tradition of financial transparency and responsible budgeting.”

The City of Springfield continues to prioritize fiscal responsibility and remains dedicated to providing its residents with the highest quality of services. Receiving the GFOA’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Award reaffirms the City’s mission to foster an environment of accountability, transparency, and excellence in government finance.
