Springfield residents interested in running for election for the positions of City Council in the statewide May 17, 2022 primary election can obtain information and forms for filing from the City Recorder located in the City Manager’s Office at 225 Fifth Street, Springfield, Oregon or on our website at https://www.springfield-or.gov/city/city-recorder-elections/. The candidate filing deadline for the primary election with the City of Springfield is March 3, 2022.

The Springfield City Charter requires that the first voting for a Springfield City Councilor occur in a primary election. If a candidate receives a majority of votes in the primary election, that candidate is elected. If a candidate does not receive a majority of votes at the primary election, then a run-off between the two candidates receiving the highest number of votes will occur at the statewide general election on Tuesday, November 8, 2022.
