INVOLVED SUSPECT:
Luarca, Calvin | 37 Year-Old Male | Springfield, OR

NARRATIVE OF INCIDENT:
On November 27, 2024, at 1006hrs a Springfield Police Department Officer patrolling the Gateway area positively identified a stolen vehicle parked in front of a residence on Fiesta Drive. Two men exited the vehicle, at which point the officer gave commands to stop. The passenger of the vehicle complied, while the driver (later identified as Calvin Luarca) ran into the residence.

As it was unknown if Luarca was connected to the address of if he had run into a random residence, the officer requested backup and placed the passenger in custody. Multiple assets from the Springfield Police Department responded to the scene including SWAT, K9, and Drone Operators. Assistance from the Eugene Police Department and Lane County Sheriff’s Office were also dispatched to the area and were vital to the operation.

Crisis negotiators were able to contact several individuals inside of the residence who were not involved with the incident and safely remove them from the home. Police developed information that Luarca had been in possession of a handgun and had made remarks about “shooting it out” with law enforcement.

After several attempts to contact Luarca, he ran out of the rear of the home where he was apprehended by an SPD K9 team. Operators from the Metro Drone Team entered the residence via drone to confirm there were no other occupants in the home. During the execution of a later search warrant, investigators located a firearm & ammunition.

Luarca was lodge at the Lane County Jail on the charges below.
