INVOLVED SUSPECT:
Sadie Jagiello | 29-Year-Old Female | Springfield, OR
NARRATIVE OF INCIDENT:
On May 16th, at approximately 9:45pm, a Springfield Police Officer attempted a traffic stop with the driver of a Jeep SUV traveling east on I-105 near 42nd Street. The driver, later identified as 29-year-old Sadie Jagiello of Springfield, pulled over, but then quickly drove away. The officer pursued Jagiello, when she again pulled over for a moment and then sped off still traveling east on I-105. As Jagiello approached the intersection of I-105 and Main Street, the officer attempted a Pursuit Intervention Technique (PIT), which was unsuccessful. Jagiello again sped away now traveling east on Main Street.
For unknown reasons, Jagiello appeared to have intentionally drove into a power pole at the intersection of 67th Street and Main Street, sheering the pole, causing area power outages. The vehicle turned over on its side and caught fire. SPD Officers quickly pulled an unconscious Jagiello from the car and extinguished the fire.
Eugene/Springfield Fire Department arrived on scene to assist and transported Jagiello to a nearby hospital where she was treated and released to Officers. The investigation determined Jagiello was impaired, and a search warrant was obtained for her blood. Jagiello was later lodged in the Lane County Jail on charges of Attempt to Elude in a Motor Vehicle, Reckless Driving and Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants.
Main Street was closed off for an extended period of time while SUB (Springfield Utility Board) crews responded to repair the damage and restored power.
