On December 20th, at about 4:30pm, Springfield Police responded to the 300 block of Main St regarding a welfare check request on a possible suicidal subject in a vehicle.  Upon arrival with ESF, it was determined there was an unknown hazardous gas coming from the involved vehicle.  The Fire Department worked quickly to remove the only occupant of the vehicle to provide medical aid.  Springfield Police began closing roads and pedestrian access to the area and advised the neighboring open businesses and residents to shelter in place.

The Fire Department coordinated a hazmat response until the area was determined to be safe.  Main St was temporarily closed resulting in traffic being diverted to different routes.  The Fire Department has confirmed that there is no longer a hazard to the public.
