After short pursuit, Eugene man crashes stolen motorcycle, taken to hospital and cited

On September 2nd at about 1:33 am, an officer saw Darren Leigh Carson, 52, riding a motorcycle westbound near the 1800 block of Centennial Blvd.

As the officer followed Carson, he was seen committing several traffic violations. The officer tuned on their lights to pull Carson over near the intersection of 16th and J Streets.

The motorcycle sped away from the patrol car going South on 16th Street through the McKenzie Willamette Hospital parking lot and returned to 16th Street. The officer continued pursuing Carson southbound on 16th Street to Main Street. The motorcycle and the officer drove East on Main to 14th, when the motorcyclist tried to turn left on 14th, but wasn’t able to make the turn. He drove up on the curb and crashed into a rock.

The officer stopped the car and ran to Carson, who was lying on the ground. Medics arrived a short time later and took Carson to Sacred Heart at RiverBend Hospital with serious injuries, where he was cited.

The motorcycle was reported as stolen out of Eugene.
