The information provided is intended to assist persons interested in establishing and/or conducting business in the City of Springfield. We can acquaint you with City procedures and direct you to the various departments that you might need in order to obtain information for such as business licensing, signs and building permits.  In addition to obtaining the business license, you must also comply with all City, County and State regulations for zoning, change of use, building, health and safety. Business License and Forms

The City of Springfield requires that certain businesses procure a license prior to operation. All business license applications shall be made to the city manager. If a proposed business requires a business license pursuant to the Springfield Municipal Code below, an application and approval of the license shall occur prior to any business operation. Home Occupation

Public Passenger Vehicle Services
To obtain a business license for a ”Public Passenger Vehicle Services” in the City of Springfield and/or The City of Eugene, please follow this link for an application http://www.eugene-or.gov/index.aspx?nid=832 or contact 541-682-5379. In the City of Springfield, Public Passenger Vehicles Services may not be approved for storage in residential areas. Contact our Planner on Duty for additional information at 541.726.3753.
 

Expiration and Renewal of Business License

The Council sets all business license fees by resolution.  All applicants shall pay license fees at the time of application. Business Licenses are issued for a fiscal year, beginning on July 1st and ending on June 30th of the following year, unless otherwise provided by the Council. In certain instances, the City will forward a renewal notice approximately 45 days before the deadline. It is the responsibility of each business owner to renew his/her license by the due date, whether or not it receives a renewal notice.  Applications submitted during the business year are not pro-rated and are subject to the entire fee.  Penalties apply if the license is not renewed by the due date. A penalty of $10.00 or (10%) ten percent of the license fee, whichever is greater, shall accrue for each month a business has operated without obtaining a business license. All business licenses are subject to a 5% technology fee.  All business licenses are not transferable.

 

Duplicate License-Fee

A duplicate license may be obtained by the Business License Division on a previously issued license for a five dollar fee.

 

Springfield Municipal Code Chapter 7 Business: Prior to issuance of any license, an occupancy inspection of the building may occur which could include structural, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, fire and life safety inspection and could require an application for a minimum development standards of the city.
