Letters of Support:

The BPAC recently wrote two letters of support. The first is for the Mayors' Challenge for Safer People Safer Streets, a USDOT initiative to improve safety for pedestrians and bicyclists of all ages and abilities. The City participated to:

  • Build on our commitment to improve roadway safety for all users through education, enforcement and planning.
  • Help achieve identified Council Goals and the specific action item of the City-wide bicycle and pedestrian connectivity and way-finding implementation plan.
  • Learn what other cities are doing to improve safety for pedestrian, bicyclist and drivers; share what we have accomplished or are planning with other cities.

The second letter of support is for the City's Virginia-Daisy Bikeway Project. The goals of the project are:

  1. The project aligns with the City of Springfield’s commitment to providing safe transportation options. The project is an identified need in the Springfield Transportation System and aligns with regional bike network connectivity goals.
  2. The Virginia-Daisy Bikeway Project provides a safe and comfortable bicycle corridor that can be used by people of all ages and abilities.
  3. The design of the Virginia-Daisy Bikeway enhances the overall appearance of the corridor for all users, improves pedestrian safety and usage, and provides traffic calming for automobiles to emphasize active transportation along the street and enhance the neighborhood feel.
