The City of Springfield Mayor and Council has appointed Nancy Newton to serve as Springfield City Manager.

On Monday, March 16, the Mayor and Council approved the contract with Newton. Her anticipated start date is April 20. As Springfield City Manager, Newton will provide the overall management, administration and direction of City operations.

“I want to thank the Mayor and City Council for selecting me,” said new Springfield City Manager Nancy Newton. “I’m thrilled to serve as Springfield’s next city manager. I look forward to making Springfield my home and working with elected officials, staff, and the community to accomplish great things together.”

“We look forward to welcoming Nancy, and we are excited for the level of expertise and energy she will bring in her service to the Springfield community,” said Mayor Christine Lundberg. “I want to thank the many who participated in this recruitment process and helped provide valuable insight.”

Newton has more than 20 years of local government management experience and currently serves as Assistant County Executive/Chief Operating Officer for Sacramento County, California, a position she has held since 2016. Before that, she served as Interim County Administrator for Clackamas County, Oregon, from July to September 2013, and Deputy County Administrator for Clackamas County from 2010 to 2016.

Newton holds a bachelor’s degree in management and organizational leadership from George Fox University and a master’s degree in public administration from Portland State University.
