2016 City of Springfield Election Information

The following City of Springfield City Council position will be on the ballot for the November 8, 2016 General Election:

During the May 18, 2016 Primary Election, none of the three candidates received more than 50% of the vote. Sheri Moore and Sean Dunn received the two highest numbers of votes cast for the office and will run off during the November 8, 2016 General Election (Springfield Charter Chapter III, Section 10).

The term for the Ward 3 Council position will commence the first of January, 2017, and expire December 31, 2020.

* The position for SUB Position #3 is to fill out the remainder of an existing term, and will commence the first of January, 2017 and expire December 31, 2018.

The terms for SUB Positions #1 and #5 will commence the first of January, 2017, and expire December 31, 2020.

** Candidates for the Springfield Utility Board (SUB) are required to collect 25 signatures from registered voters in the city limits to qualify for the ballot. All applicants have submitted the required signatures to the City Recorder.

The terms for the position of Mayor, City Councilor Ward 4 and City Councilor Ward 6 will commence on January 1, 2017 and expire December 31, 2020.

* The Springfield Charter states that if no candidate receives over 50% of the votes at the Primary Election, the two candidates receiving the two highest numbers of votes cast for the office shall move forward to the General Election. Because none of the candidates for the City Councilor, Ward 3 position received over 50%, the two top vote getters (Sean Dunn and Sheri Moore), will run off during the November 8, 2016 General Election.

Registering to Vote:

You may register to vote at any time. However, your voter registration card must be postmarked no later than the 21st day before the election at which you intend to vote. For the November 8, 2016 General Election, the deadline to register is October 18, 2016.
